New York (March 20, 2002)
– If you follow PGA TOUR golf on television, you notice an ad depicting children in Spain, climbing fences after being chased by a dog just so they'll have a better look at a TV showing that week's tour event. While the ad depicts the global reach of the game, USA Network and PGA TOUR are working towards bringing children of America the opportunity to learn the game of golf.USA Network and the PGA TOUR have teamed up to help bring the game of golf to Orlando’s multi-cultural youth by introducing a 5-week clinic program beginning March 25th. Time Warner Cable is the local cable affiliate sponsor of the program.
The USA Network/PGA TOUR Golf Clinic is designed to introduce youngsters to golf and provide them access to the game, facilities, equipment and instruction. Each clinic will include 300-330 kids (7-17 yrs. old) residing within a 30-mile radius of the clinic locale. Kids will be supplied with golf shirts, golf balls and other equipment. Each youngster will participate in five clinics over a five-week span.
The USA Network/PGA TOUR Golf Clinic will take place at the Celebration Golf Course at Disney World Resort. This event is coordinated through the City of Orlando, Time Warner Cable Orlando Division - USA Network Affiliate, PGA TOUR and the Multi-Cultural Golf Association of America (MGAA).
The MGAA is dedicated to making golf available and accessible to all deserving youngsters wanting to learn the game of golf while also teaching self-discipline, academic achievement and self-reliance.
