GOLF CLINICS IN PINEHURST, SANFORD LEE AND FAYETTEVILLE

WILL PROVIDE EMPOWERMENT AND LEADERSHIP TRAINING

 

Pinehurst, NC - March 29, 1999 - The Minority Golf Association of America, Inc., today announced that the organization will facilitate and sponsor an eight-week, three County junior golf clinic program and a golf contest during the U.S. Open week for 100 area youth from the ages of 10 to 17 years old. The children are recruited from youth organizations such as the Boys and Girls Clubs and Little Brothers- Little Sisters program.

The MGAA, established in 1991, is a national not-for-profit organization whose mission is to introduce golf and its attributes to kids from multicultural backgrounds and to assist other organizations establish golf programs at PGA golf facilities. The MGAA has created and established over 100 programs in 25 states to date with its benchmark Golf and Empowerment clinics.

The 1999 U.S. Open marks the 5th consecutive year which the MGAA has conducted "Kids Day" during the week of the U.S. Open. The kids in the program will be invited to the U.S. Open site on Tuesday June 15th 1999 to see tournament players and be treated to lunch and refreshments provided by the USGA. Later in the day, the kids will be shuttled over to Pine Wild Golf facility, which is also hosting the Little Brothers-Little Sisters eight week clinic, for an exhibition and contest which will demonstrate skills learned during their clinic program.

Students will attend the clinics after school for a one hour clinic for eight weeks. In addition, the student will take part in an empowerment seminar series, that focuses on self development and leadership, as per John David President of the MGAA who states he will make several appearances to include the opening day exhibition and clinic at each site. MGAA workshops will help focus thought, energy, and action on the specifics that will bring them success.

At the end of the eight week clinic, the kids will have the opportunity to test their skills and compete with each other in tournament play at Pine Wild Golf Course.

Headquartered in West Hampton Beach, New York, the Minority golf Association of America is a leader in developing junior golf programs nationwide. The participating golf facilities are Pine Wild, Knollwood, Quail Ridge and Baywood Golf facilities.
