Jack & Barbara Nicklaus Foundation Sponsors Junior Clinic In Chicago
APRIL 15, 2000 - The MGAA is pleased to announce that Jack Nicklaus, "Golfer of the Century," and winner of 20 major championships is sponsoring, the MGAA hosted, junior golf and empowerment program for 60 boys and girls of the University Golf Program in Chicago, Illinois. The "Jack & Barbara Nicklaus Foundation, Inc., supports junior golf programs around the country for children who otherwise might not be introduced to the game of golf and its attributes".
"Jack Nicklaus has a long tradition of sponsoring community events, including the MGAA's Kid's Day Golf Exhibition and Clinic, during the 1995 U.S. Open. We are delighted that he and Mrs. Nicklaus are bringing the excitement to urban youth in Chicago," said John David, President and Executive Director of the MGAA's national program.
The clinic will kick-off at 4:30 PM, May 1st, with its opening ceremonies to be held at Family Golf Centers, Inc., located at 221 N. Columbus Drive, below the Swiss Hotel in Chicago. The students will attend the clinics after school for 1-1/2 hours, on Monday and Tuesday, for eight weeks. The program is designed to include a large dose of empowerment that focuses on self-development, and leadership. The seminars will help focus thoughts, energy, and action on the specifics that will bring them success. At the end of the eight weeks, the students will be able to apply what they have learned by competing in the MGAA facilitated Kids Golf, "Drive, Pitch & Putt Worldwide Competition," of which, Jack Nicklaus is the honorary chairperson.
About the MGAA, Inc. - Established in 1991, the MGAA is a national Not-For-Profit organization, whose mission is to introduce golf and its attributes to kids from multicultural backgrounds, and to assist other organizations establish golf programs at PGA golf facilities around the country. This year represents the third year that the MGAA has provided its services for Chicago's youth. We have facilitated junior golf programs for the Park & Recreation Department, High-Sight Mentoring Program, and the Boys & Girls Club. The MGAA has established more than 130 junior golf programs in 26 states, reaching over 25,000 kids around the country. "We put smiles on thousands of children's faces," and at the same time, grow the sport of golf, so that it becomes all inclusive.
